Certainly some of the greatest struggles that occur in life are those within ourselves, as we grapple with fear and doubt and learn to maintain our trust. Faith is about that trust, the strength that comes from taking that "blind leap" into the unknown with only our faith to support us. This faith is a constant, a pedal point around which the rest of our life revolves, and, if we believe, it can carry us through the darkest moments of our inner lives.

Faith was commissioned by the St. Olaf College Band, Dr. Timothy Mahr, conductor, for their performance at the 1997 American Bandmasters Association Convention in San Diego, California. The commission was financially supported by the Miles Johnson Endowment.
